Medical language translated! Some commonly used abbreviations.

Here are some to start the list.....

So below are some abbrieviations that are commonly used. (If you want to add more do feel free!)

PE - Pre Eclampsia

HELLP - Haemolysis, Elevated liver enzymes, Low Platelets.

BP - Blood Pressure.

IUGR - Intra Uterine Growth Restriction. (Some places call it retardation, this is being phased out as no parent wants to hear their baby 'classified' as retarded.)

LSCS - Lower Segment Caesarian Section

VBAC - Vaginal birth after Caesarian.

APLS - Anti Phospho Lipid Syndrome

AI - Artificial Insemination

ICSI - Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

PCT - Primary Care Trust. (NHS Trusts)

PRECOG - Pre Eclampsia Community Obstetric Guidelines.

PA - Placental Abrubtion

BMI - Body Mass Index.

NNU - Neo Natal Unit

NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

SCBU - Special Care Baby Unit.

EDF - end diastolic flow.

GTT - Glucose Tolerance Test.
