| Hi everyone.
Baby Jonah James Cavanagh was born on 6th April 2009. 12 days over due 7lb 13oz by ventouse and PE free. He was a quick arrival labour just 3 hours 9 mins and he was in distress as the cord was wrapped round his neck twice and had pooed in his sack so he was forced out but it was a very positive birth experience and i'm so glad he's here safely and on time.

| Thanks everyone. Well we managed to get home for a few days till he had to go back to hospital. He was dehydrated and has a possible infection could just be in his chest or menengitus (can't spell) they are doing tests on him and he has to stay in for a min of 5 days up to 14 days so i'm happy i had a PE free pregnancy but there is now something else i just feel i can't just enjoy my baby If it's not one thing it's something else!! | |

| Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Paula. I remember how I felt when Joe had to go back in after I'd only just "sprung" him - I kept having to remind myself that no one was taking my baby away from me! Will they let you stay with him to feed him? Take good care Love and thoughts L | |

| Hi everyone thanks for the messages they have done a lumber puncture and they think it's another infection and NOT menengitus so i'm relieved. My milk has dried up and he was dehydrated that's why he ended up in hospital he wasn't getting enough food off me. But at least we know how much food he's getting. I'll keep you posted watch this space. | |

| Glad to hear it's not meningitis. No doubt he'll be getting antibiotic cover after the LP - Joe had the same when he was 4 days old. It's wretched but I hope you'll all be home soon, in time to enjoy some spring sunshine! Hugs to you L | |

| Hi Paula,
Im so sorry to hear Jonah has been in hospital poorly. Im glad to hear the LP was clear though. If you want to consider continuing to breast feed - even just to 'top up' then a course of the antiemetic domperidone might help improve the lactation. Your doctor or midwife will be able to help. Anxiety is often a cause for milk to dry up and waiting for the PE to strike again may have just been enough to do the job. I hope you are all back at home together very soon & in the best of health.
Warm Wishes Liz

| Hi Paula,
So glad to hear that it's not meningitis, still must be very worrying for you though.
Here's hoping that he's back home very soon.

| So glad to hear it's not meningitis. So horrible that he's in hospital though, hope he's home with you soon. NCT are really good for any advice re breastfeeding. Fennel tea is supposed to promote milk too, but totally understand if you're switching to bottles with everything that's going on. Big hugs to you all xxx | |

| I'm so confused the LP has now come back saying that he has a high level of white blood cells in the fluid so they can't rule out menengitus it could be something else a slim chance but they just don't know. He has to have a full 2 week course of antibiotics then a possible week more so i'm keeping my fingers crossed it's just 2 weeks. He has had no symptoms of any kind so they think that they caught it very early which is reassuring.
Thanks for all the messages. i'll keep you posted.

| Hi Paula, I hope my message finds you & Jonah more settled. A person can have a high white cell count if there is infection in the body, obviously the fact this is showing in his spinal fluid is important, but he is getting the right care & in plenty of time. Most cases with meningitis are that the damage occurs because it was just not recognised quickly enough. From what you have said it sounds like there is no real conclusive evidence either way & so to be super safe, Jonah is being treated to cover him should the worst be true. The Meningitis trust will be able to offer you lots of upto date information. They have a 24 hour support line too. http://www.meningitis.org/ Meantime, I hope you are getting lots of TLC. We will be here to support you all we can & hoping that Jonah will recover very soon. Warm wishes Liz | |
