Blood tests Empty
PostSubject: Blood tests   Blood tests EmptyWed 25 Nov 2009, 12:37 pm

Hi Liz,

This is a subject that I asked about on the old APEC board many moons ago but never got round to acting upon.

When I had my specialist appt with Prof Thornton in Nottingham he didn't do any blood tests for disorders as he felt that it would not change my treatment. I've never been entirely happy with this and now I am contemplating trying for another baby I would like to get them done. Do you have a list of bloods that I could take to my gp to ask for? You did give me this info before but for some reason all your pm's seem to have been wiped from my account on APEC.

Any other advice for before I start trying would be gratefully recieved as well.

Hi Lesley,

Did you take aspirin or heparin throughout your last pregnancy? Also can you remind me what geatation you were when PE arose for you? I know Isaac was a born at
27 weeks, but did it all happen quickly or were there signs earlier?
That will help me to outline a care plan for you, rather than the generic! (You can PM as its personal info you might not want everyone to know!)

The blood tests are generally thrombophilia screens to include auto-immune conditions like Anti-phospho-lipid syndrome or Lupus.

Best Wishes
Liz

Thanks for such a speedy reply Liz.

I didn't have any treatment during my last pregnany, I did however have heprin for 6 weeks after giving birth. Prof Thornton has recommended that I start on asprin from 12 weeks in my next pregnancy.

As to when I started showing symptoms, its a tricky one. I presented with high bp from my booking in appt at 8 weeks. I've always been approx 120/70 but I was 135/89. I did comment a number of times but was ignored due to being overweight. I was warned about pe at 20 weeks but told it was too early and my bp had't gone up enough (150/95). I started getting severe epigastric pain at 25 weeks but was told it was muscle strain for over a week and was only admitted under my own steam 4 days before I gave birth by which time my platelets were at 67. Hope all that is of some vaige help. Shocked
